Eastern Meadowlark,
(Sturnella magna) is the newest carving finished just shy of the 2011 conclusion. It is carved from a piece of American Chestnut dating from the 1800's. It was finished in such
way as to preserve each and everyone of the "worm" holes
usually present in wood from this almost extinct and former dominant American tree specie.The bird was fitted with cast pewter legs, glass eyes and was set on an old piece of Locust post. http://birdofwood.com.p8.hostingprod.com/mywork5.html

The New Year brings opportunities to make life corrections and /or help us set up new goals to reach an elusive achievement or stage in our lives, to make sense of our individual lives. Thus it brings me to revamp the Bird of Wood.com account back to the old Yahoo web host. Had tried 1&1 but it did not appeal to my limited website creative acumen. The website is pending transfer, so it will likely take a week or so for it to be up and "running".

Another Earth rotation around our Sun Star-What new challenges will I face?
I have got a multitude of "things" to complete or start, none of which are life priorities or self-esteem busters. I will only attempt to amuse myself and make time move quicker, take my mind off from the analysis of life's motives and futility.

The Picture above is a wooden representation of what appears to me is a female Belted Kingfisher, which had been on standby for a better part of 2010 and 2011, waiting for me to make up my mind. I have not seen one close up (bird on hand), so the rendering is personal and not apologetic.

Spent the Holiday celebration by myself. Well, actually, not by myself , but with the Flu or a variant of the vermin. In fact, I'm still a wreak, coughing and keeping the dog awake, yep, I too sleep with a dog. It's been a while since I last visited to post anything, in fact I have but totally forgotten I even had a blog. Had not been for some (good) comments I received today in facebook, I would have been still oblivious to the fact. Oh, well, that's me. These are some birds of wood I still hold on to, hopefully to dress my new studio/store. I am planing to host a few artist friends in this venture, so more on that later. JRV

Having decided to take a pause from my birdofwood.com website and its' monthly charges, I figured there wasn't any harm in giving this a try. Beside being able to write and respond to my own queries, I would hope to keep my small following informed of my current projects, mood swings and other worthy matters. All topics are welcome, so long as they do not involve or require me or others to purchase something. I will post some pics of works in progress soon. JRV
