FastJack is Leaping!

For a couple of years I had been holding on to a piece/slab of Hemlock wood with a wild grain pattern hoping to “see” something “animal” in it. Last month while I was working on sketching a leaping hare I had wanted for a wall in my cabin, I came across that piece of wood. I made a paper pattern of the hare shape and laying it on the piece of wood matching as best as I could woodgrain features to the hare’s cardboard cutout. I would have liked make a detailed painted wood carving, but in doing so I would have ended up hiding the natural beauty of the wood grain pattern from view. It is 25” long and 7” tall, 2 dimensional flat to make it easier to place on a wall surface.

I have plans for a painted one and others on various body positions, both active and passive…will see.
